About the wine
Aging in new French barriques. The grapes come from very old vineyards in the municipalities of Ligornetto and Besazio. Luigi Zanini is one of the pioneers in improving the quality of Merlot. In 1985 he founded Vinattieri Ticinesi Viticoltori and began to realize his ideas: transplanting new types of barriques into Ticino.
Tasting note
The flagship of the entire series. Vinattieri has the complexity and complexity that you expect from a wine of this quality class. On the nose, scented tones of sweet plums and blackcurrant jelly, but also of dark berries and cinnamon. The palate impression is powerful and full. The finish is long and impressive. From 10 years of maturity, aromas such as undergrowth, leather and mushrooms develop and the tannins develop a slight sweetness and are reminiscent of a matured Pomerol.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with grilled foods, stews, roasts, game and fine cuts of meat.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness. Around 10% of the grapes are slightly dried for approx. 15 days. Fermentation takes place for 21 days in cone-shaped wooden barrels and the final ageing for 18 months in new French 225 and 300 liter barriques. After bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for approx. 2 years before being released on the market.
