Quinta de Boavista is located on the imposing Portuguese wine river Douro in the top Cima Corgo zone. The roots of the winery go back to 1756 and the new story begins in 2013 with the new owner Tony. Together with his oenologist Rui Cunha, he produces wines in small quantities and of the highest quality. A special vineyard wine from Quinta comes from the vineyard whose name goes back to a house of prayer: the Vinha do Oratorio. This old vineyard, the average age of the vines is over 80 years, is still planted in a “mixed set” with more than 25 different local varieties, of which Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca are the most important. According to ancient tradition, the must is crushed in Lagares (shallow granite fermentation tanks), where the grapes are carefully tamped with the feet. The fermentation process is completed in barriques, where the wine matures for around 18 months. The wine shows fruity-spicy notes with red and black-fruity aromas, a firm tannin structure, accentuated “stony” minerality with a long finish.
