Barthélemy AOC 2020 - Château le Puy

About the wine

For 400 years (!) The château is family-owned, yet it is one of the most overlooked châteaus in Bordeaux. The wines may not excel at Primeur tastings due to their moderate alcohol levels, but they regularly shine in blind tastings and are full of life even after decades. What kind of characters who combine tradition and future here. Like Pascal and Jean-Pierre Amoreau, full of humility in the face of nature, there is only minimal intervention in the vineyard, biodynamic viticulture since the 1990s (certified). In the cellar, the two character heads exclusively refrain from using new wood, added sulfur and filtration. Le Puy, these are unique wines that know how to tell the centuries-long history of families. The fact that they have also been denied the AOC label due to lack of typicality can only be understood as an award after you have only tasted them once! Great, fascinating wines!

Tasting note
Family chronicle - full of stories and deeply rooted, radiates an immense peace and yet no heaviness, juicy, calm dark berry fruit, even grapes, beetroot, a thousand little anecdotes, old, told again and again, fruits, fresh and dried herbs, shades of brown, leather, spices, embedded in the quiet course of history, the unshakable fruit. On the palate, humility and pride, silky smooth harmony and juicy fullness, with unpretentious nobility, noble, dark and fresh, juicy fruit, classic elegance and attitude without being stiff or showing off, lots of brown tones, that is origin and tradition, terroir understood as soil, climate and culture. Fanstatic BDX from the right bank!
