Since 1993, a few thousand bottles have been produced annually from the Il Poggiale vineyard, which are marketed as Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale. The cuvée consists of 90 percent Sangiovese and 5 percent each of Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo. They ferment in stainless steel tanks for two to three weeks and mature in barriques for 12 to 18 months until bottling, half of which in new wood. As a ripe wine, Il Poggiale shows an exemplary firm structure, combined with precisely defined notes of highly ripe berries, which are nowhere more beautiful to find anywhere in Tuscany.
