About the wine
Wonderful landscapes in Levante give us these grapes, from which the winemaker from the Spanish winery Casa Rojo conjures up this red wine with refinement and sensitivity. The Flaschenpöstler promise a culinary experience when offered with Gruyère Burger or Ribeye Steak.
Tasting note
The vines of Las Viñas Bastardas are located at 800 meters above sea level, on the border of DO Jumilla, north of the Casa Rojo winery. Because they do not belong to DO Jumilla, i.e. are located in an area that has no designation of origin, they are called “bastards” by producers. Many vines were destroyed and replaced by almond or olive trees because these yield more to landowners. Just because their excellent, often very old vineyards, sometimes over a hundred years old, are not located in DO Jumilla because of a few meters. The terroir of the area, which consists of limestone and loamy soils and is very barren, combined with an extreme climate, produces very low yields with high concentration. Casa Rojo has recognized the potential and selected the best “bastardas” vines to create an amazing red wine with lots of expression and fruit, and also with a lot of history and heritage.
Culinary recommendation
