About the wine

The municipality of Olmedillo de Roa occupies a special position in the Ribera del Duero region: Due to the slightly elevated position, the grapes suffer less from the heat, which makes the wines fresher and less lush. It's no wonder that star winemaker Peter Sisseck spent many years buying the grapes for his legendary PINGUS (most expensive wine in Spain) from the over 80-year-old vineyards of José Luis Escudero and César Martin. A few years ago, the two enthusiasts founded their own bodega under the name Pagos de Matanegra and pressed their great grapes themselves — with resounding success: The Matanegra Vendimia Selecionada 2009 was named the best new Spaniard by the trade magazine “Hotelier” with a dream score of 19.2!
