About the wine

The Costers del Priorat winery by Enric Sole is located in the mountainous surroundings of the mining town of Bellmunt del Priorat, in the south of Catalonia. The vines are cultivated on very narrow, small terraces, all work is done almost exclusively by hand. At the foot of the best plot are cypresses, which also give the wine made from over hundred-year-old Samso (Carignan) grapes the name Clos Cypres. These ancient vines are priceless. Optimally adapted to the conditions of the 359 million year old soils of licorella slate, the mountainous terroir with extremely rare rainfall, they extract the rare water from the cracks between the stones. The excellent wines of the Domaine are extremely concentrated with characteristic mineral notes. It is pressed with their own wild yeasts. Each plot is vinified separately in small tanks and aged in barriques from the French tonnelleries Radoux, Cadus, Freres and Taransaut for 18 months. The wood should not shape the wine. The total production amounts to a good 15,000 bottles of pissares and 1500 bottles of Clos Cypres.
