About the wine
What Markus Schneider has achieved in recent years is hard to believe. In 1994, he started from scratch, so to speak. And today, 22 years later, he and his team process over 92 hectares, fill around 800,000 bottles a year and is described by the German trade press as The Phenomenon and The Favourite of the Young Scene.

Tasting note
In the glass, the Portugieser glows cherry red with a ruby glow. On the nose, fine cherries, herbs, vanilla, orange zest, mint and ripe plums. Powerful and multi-faceted, velvety and dense with juicy vivacity on the palate.
Vinification
The Einzelstück is only produced in good years from the best Portueser location. In 2020, the grapes could be harvested late and fully ripe at the end of September in imperial weather. After careful manual harvesting, the grapes are mashed for a good 30 days. The young wine ages for 12 months in new and used wooden barrels of various formats and then in the bottle for 36 months.
