About the wine

Only very few wine-growing regions in the world have a success story comparable to that tiny Catalan enclave, unknown just a few years ago. Very old Garnacha and Cariñena vines were not cut out, but revived according to the latest oenological criteria and added Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. José Luis Pérez, university professor and significant initiator of the Priorat miracle, founded the scientifically managed Mas Martinet Viticultors winery with his family. In the meantime, the second generation has already taken over the helm with daughter Sara Pérez. Sara Pérez is already surpassing her father. What Sara has inherited from her father is the uncompromising, rigorous quality.

Tasting note
This Els Escurcons is covered in a thick purple with purple reflections and an almost black core. In the nose, a complex aroma potpourri of plums, black berries (blackberry, elderberry), fig jam, fine seasoning, mocha and chocolate coating, a mineral aftertaste as well as roasted aromas and vanilla unfolds. On the palate, the wine develops its full benefits in the homogeneous interplay of fruit, freshness and an ideal tannin structure. The structure and density are convincing, and the mineral terroir character is finely worked out.
Culinary recommendation
Unsere Empfehlung: Der Rotwein schmeckt am besten bei leicht gekühlten 16°-18°C. Zu Burger mit Blauschimmelkäse, würzigen Gerichten und scharfem Essen empfehlen Ihnen die Flaschenpöstler.
Vinification
The Els Escurçons was aged until 2011 in traditional “tinas” (large wooden vats), as well as in 1/3 new and 2/3 used French oak barrels. Since 2012, Sara Perez has been using more and more terracotta amphoras for vinification, which is reflected in a further increase in complexity and presentation of the terroir character.
