Mamuthone DOC 2020 - Giuseppe Sedilesu

About the wine

The family has in its patriarchs, Giuseppe and Grazia, the initiators of viticulture and wine production. Thirty years ago, the first hectares of vineyard were purchased for direct cultivation with the help of the three sons. The company has grown together with the family during these years. Mamoiada is a Sardinian village in the center of Barbagia. In its traditional mask, the village of the Mamuthones has a great wealth, unchanged after thousands of years, which is deeply rooted in the sacred rituals of the ancient rural population. Mamoiada is 650 meters above sea level and the origin of the soils lies in granite weathering. The Giuseppe Sedilesu company has ten hectares of Cannonau vineyards and small areas of white grapes in the rural area of Mamoiada. The vines are raised as trees. The Cannonau vineyard with its trees has a low yield and adapts perfectly to the surrounding area. In the wine cellar, the peculiarity and uniqueness of its wines are further underlined by the natural, down-to-earth fermentation. The refinement takes place in oak and piece barrels. Slight filtration is carried out before bottling. The amount of sulfur dioxide remaining in the bottle is very low thanks to carefully monitored transformation. Production 70,000 bottles

Tasting note
As a symbol of the winery, the Mamuthone fully expresses the typical characteristics of a varietal cannonau from Mamoiada: distinct accents of herbs and ripe fruit, a dense palate with delicate and sweet tannins and an extraordinary depth.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with grilled meats, game and aged cheeses.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place spontaneously. And the subsequent pressing is easy. The ageing process lasts 12 months in 40 hl wooden barrels. Filtration does not take place. In the end, the wine remains in the bottle for at least 3 months.
