About the wine
The magnetite mines of Cogne in Costa del Pino are among the highest in Europe, and the mining village of Colonna is even located at 2,425 m above sea level. The mining of magnetite deposits in Cogne has ancient origins dating back to 1432, after a period of management of the mine in the early 19th century by Dr. Grappein, born in Cogne, the heyday of mining also attracted a Belgian investor to Aosta Valley, and the mine reached its largest extent at the beginning of the 20th century. It remained in operation until 1979. The mines include over 100 km of tunnels in the belly of the mountain, some of which can be traveled by historic train and some can be visited on foot under a guided tour. In the part of the mine that used to be a powder warehouse, our bottles are now stored for expansion. There is also a renovated mining museum on the site in the mining village of Montroz.
