Tasting note
Saragio is a dialect name for a cherry tree, “poggio” the Italian term for hill. In this location, where many cherry trees can still be found today, there are also some plots of Giacinto Lombardo. Here he picks out the best grapes for this wine. He sells the rest, as well as other parts of his harvest, loose to wine merchants in the region. Giacinto has also planted some Cabernet Sauvignon in Poggio Saragio. 10% is at most the proportion that sets a spicy accent in this cuvée. The wine is aged for 24 months in French oak barriques. The result is delicately spicy notes, underlined with a little vanilla, smoke and tar. On the palate, the Poggio Saragio brings a soft opulence in exciting balance with the acid/tannin play.
