About the wine
In our search for small, unknown producers who produce exceptional wines, we came across Pago de Vallegarcía. The ambitious project was launched by entrepreneur and wine lover Alfonso Cortina. When implementing his ideas, he really did not leave anything to chance. He chose an unusual patch of earth near Toledo, on the edge of the famous “Cabañeros” nature reserve, and commissioned the well-known Australian winegrowing expert Dr. Richard Smart to plant the vineyards. 31 hectares of land were planted with typical Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties, which are located 850 m above sea level in the Montes de Toledo. The continental climate, with hot summers and cooler nights during the harvest phase, is perfect for ripening the grapes and developing aromas in the final phase of ripening. An ambitious, young team of oenologists and wine experts produces here, in a modern cellar, exceptionally harmonious and profound wines, which are now among the best produced in the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula. Well-known wine critics such as Robert Parker and José Peñin did not wait long to receive top reviews.
