Vallegarcia Petit Hipperia Vino de la Tierra de Castilla 2021 - Pago de Vallegarcía

About the wine

In our search for small, less well-known producers who produce exceptional wines, we came across Pago de Vallegarcía. The ambitious project was launched by entrepreneur and wine lover Alfonso Cortina. He really didn't leave anything to chance when implementing his ideas. He chose an exceptional spot of land near Toledo, on the edge of the well-known “Cabañeros” nature reserve, and commissioned the well-known Australian winegrowing expert Dr. Richard Smart to plant the vineyards. 31 hectares of land were planted with typical Bordeaux and Rhône grape varieties, which are located 850 m above sea level in the Montes de Toledo. The continental climate, with hot summers and cooler nights during the harvest phase, is perfect for the ripening of the grapes and for the formation of aromas in the final phase of maturation. An ambitious, young team of oenologists and wine experts produces exceptionally harmonious and profound wines here, in a modern cellar, which are now among the best produced in the southern half of the Iberian Peninsula. Well-known wine critics such as Robert Parker and José Peñin did not wait long for top ratings.

Tasting note
Deep dark purple with distinctive aromas reminiscent of black cherry, violet, marzipan, caramel, coffee and finely smoked bacon as well as herbal spicy notes and tobacco. Soft and elegant on the palate with velvety tannins and pleasant fruit extract, lots of melt and a profound texture. The finish is slightly sticky and long.
Culinary recommendation
It goes well with lamb, rabbit, beef, classic Spanish cuisine, stews, pasta, vegetables, grilled goods and risottos.
