About the wine

A family winery in southern Sicily was only founded in the 90s in the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia on Lake Arancio in the province of Agrigento. The owners are the cousins Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, who, with the help of internationally renowned oenologist Carlo Corino (2007), turned the old winery into a top Italian business with cutting-edge cellar technology. Autochthonous and international grape varieties are cultivated on over 360 hectares of vineyards in six different wine-growing zones in Sicily, with particular attention being paid to cultivating the right grape variety in the right soil. Their motto is to provide a modern interpretation of historical traditions and grape varieties. Here and also when producing their excellent olive oil, environmental compatibility is very important to them. For Robert Parker, Planeta is considered the reference asset of this region par excellence. Planeta is the high-starter in Sicily. In the “Gambero Rosso Vini dItalia 1999" wine guide, the winery was named number one of the year. One of the last major and mastered challenges for Planeta was to produce this sparkling wine with traditional bottle fermentation on the slopes of Etna and on black lava rock.

Now until 2027
Tasting note
Light yellow with greenish reflections, subtle, fruity scent of Golden Delicious and Brioche. Fresh and mineral on the palate with notes of lava rock and prickly pears, with fine perlage and sparkling acidity.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with marinated raw fish, seafood, fried fish, fresh and goat cheese, omelettes with chives, with all kinds of antipasti and wonderful as an aperitif wine.
Vinification
Traditional bottle fermentation (méthode classique). Early harvest of the grapes. 20 days of fermentation at 15° C, followed by several months on fine yeast with regular battonage. Remains in the bottle on the yeast at a controlled 12°C for 20 months, followed by degorgement.
