Tasting note
Africa's only indigenous red wine cultivar made from the parent grapes Pinot Noir and Hermitage (Cinsault). Stylistically, we focus on the fruit and characteristics of Pinot Noir. An elegant, round wine with soft, juicy tannins, sweet spices, cassis, ripe berries and orange peel on the nose. Rooibos blends with the smoky charcuterie character, which continues on the palate with a zesty finish.
Culinary recommendation
Fantastic wine with a BBQ.
Vinification
The oldest soil in the world for winegrowing consists of decomposed granitan on the lower slopes of the Helderberg. This vineyard enjoys the refreshingly cool breeze from False Bay (Atlantic Ocean) during the day and the cool night air that flows down the mountain, which resulted in uniform ripening of the berries and good natural acidity. The macroclimate is maritime, with cold, humid, wet winters and sunny, warm summers. The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand before being transferred partly to small containers and the rest to stainless steel tanks. Fermentation took place on native yeast (without the addition of commercial yeasts) for approximately 14 days and barrel aging in a specially selected combination of 20% new and 80% used French oak barrels for 16 months.
