About the wine
The winemaker from the South African winery Meerendal has absolutely mastered his craft. Style and finesse are the characteristics of this red wine, which originates in the sunny and fertile landscape of the Coastal region. If we can offer something special for Christmas 2018, it's this provocative red wine 2014 Pinotage. Culinary tip from Flaschenpöstler: This Pinotage is ideal for serving with pasta Bolognese or salami.

Tasting note
The wine has a deep dark ruby red color with red fruits such as cherries, plums, some spice and dark chocolate on the nose, with hints of smoke and cedarwood. On the palate, it shows juicy aromas of red and black berries with silky tannins.
Culinary recommendation
The Pinotage goes well with aromatic game and tender steaks, but also with crispy goose, grilled chicken and veal. In South Africa, this Pinotage is also drunk slightly chilled with fried tuna, ideal on summer evenings.
Vinification
The vines for Meerendal Pinotage grow on 2 individual sites near Cape Town. A small portion of the grapes come from the famous “Heritage Block” location. In the early hours of the morning, all grapes are picked by hand, brought quickly to the winery and first fermented in open vats. The shells are pressed into the mash by hand six times a day. This gives the wine its intense color and fine tannins. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Liza Goodwin conjures up a high-class Pinotage on the Cape - South Africa's figurehead.
