Tasting note
The nose is clean and inviting, showing pure aromas of lemon verbena, sliced grass, honeydew melon, Cape gooseberries, green papaya and a touch of fresh guava followed by apple blossom, ginger and tarragon. The refreshing citrus character on the nose continues with aromas of sparkling lime, lemongrass, nettle and angelica on the palate, which add complexity to the wine and make it light-footed. The middle palate is straight, lively and precise, with the green fruits harmonizing with the racy, well-integrated acidity. Tart pineapple and notes of matcha and passion fruit linger in a crisp, lively finish.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with ceviche, chicken schnitzel with fresh lemon, sushi, goat cheese, salads with vinaigrette or fish and chips.
Vinification
With a light-footed, wonderfully fresh and drinkable style, the Porcupine Ridge Sauvignon Blanc, a pure white wine from the range of the renowned South African winery Boekenhoutskloof, shines. The grapes come from Robertson, Stellenbosch and from some plots on the west coast. They were harvested at different degrees of ripeness to obtain a smooth, round and focused wine. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature conditions before blending took place. Although the 2022 yield was smaller than the 2021 yield, there were still good yields and quality. The season dragged on incredibly long, with extended hanging times, which resulted in low alcohol levels with good phenolic ripeness.
