About the wine

Ghizzano di Peccioli, cross-country after driving from San Gimignano, seems to be at the end of the world. Instead, it is in the heart of a picture-book landscape! The village of Ghizzano itself is picturesque. It only consists of a few houses, in the middle of which rises the Castello di Ghizzano. It has been owned by the Venerosi Pesciolini family since 1370. Ginevra, the daughter, who today runs the estate with its 20 ha of olive groves, the extensive grain fields and the current 18 ha of vines, likes to lead her guests through the pleasantly cool rooms of her palazzo to the tower roof, from where the view reaches almost as far as Florence in the east and Pisa in the west. Tasting note
But there is no highway far and wide, no high-voltage line, you can imagine yourself in biblical times. In earlier times, vines and viticulture were widespread here - Chianti Colli Pisani - but the various crises that the wine industry itself caused by ever increasing production at ever lower prices forced many farmers to give up. Pierfrancesco Venerosi Pesciolini, Ginevra's father, was one of the pioneers who set off in the opposite direction and swam vigorously against the tide for almost ten years. Today, Ginevra's wines are sought after and in demand: All renowned wine publications give them top marks and the most pleasing thing is: their base wine, Il Ghizzano, stands out as one of our most beautiful wines in the lower price segment with every vintage. The Veneroso appears smoky, resinous, with notes of tobacco, toast and black chocolate. Opulent, soft start, very concentrated, perfect definition, smooth finish.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with lamb, beef, veal, venison, pork and grilled meat.
