About the wine
The vineyards of the Clos de la Grande Grange are located in the Plaine du Mas Conil plain, in the commune of Pont-Saint-Esprit in the department of Gard. The name of the municipality comes from the construction of the bridge that crosses the Rhone into Provence. It is a proud 700 years old, making it the oldest bridge over the Rhone. Roman baths have been found on this winery, which bear witness to a human presence many centuries ago. However, according to the inscription on the estate's sundial, the winery as we know it dates back at least to 1693. There are also inscriptions hammered into the stone that date from 1747: these are the signatures of the workers who built the walls of the estate, with which it is almost completely surrounded. Hence the name “Clos” (enclosed property). “Grande Grange” is again the name for one of its plots. At the beginning of the 2000s, the dilapidated buildings were completely restored and the wine cellar was completely renewed. The tanks for winemaking were installed in height and the expansion containers below. Thus, the entire work is gravity-controlled. The vineyard was also restructured: damaged vines were replaced by new varieties to improve the quality of the wine.
