About the wine
The family winery in southern Sicily was only founded in the 90s in the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia on Lake Arancio in the province of Agrigento. The owners are the cousins Alessio, Francesca and Santi Planeta, who, with the help of internationally renowned oenologist Carlo Corino (2007), turned the old winery into a top Italian business with cutting-edge cellar technology. Autochthonous and international grape varieties are cultivated on over 360 hectares of vineyards in six different wine-growing zones in Sicily, with particular attention being paid to cultivating the right grape variety in the right soil. Their motto is to provide a modern interpretation of historical traditions and grape varieties. Here and also when producing their excellent olive oil, environmental compatibility is very important to them. For Robert Parker, Planeta is considered the reference asset of this region par excellence. Planeta is the high-starter in Sicily. In the “Gambero Rosso Vini dItalia 1999" wine guide, the winery was named number one of the year. La Segreta is named after the small forest that surrounds the vineyard. The main grape, Grecanico, has been cultivated there for over 2000 years and produces a young, fresh wine with character.
