Llanos del Almendro DO 2016 - Dominio de Atauta

About the wine

That was a big prank! A small, almost deserted valley at an altitude of 1000m, old abandoned cellars and wine presses, countless, often overgrown plots with different soils and over 140 years old root-like vines, extreme, continental climate with temperature differences of up to 25 °C between day and night, somewhat cooler than usual in the Ribera del Duero. Incomparable, unbelievable, a jewel, you can only rub your eyes in disbelief, but Miguel Sánchez, recognized it and so, at the end of the 1990s, the first major investment flowed into the Atauta Valley in the east of the Ribera del Duero, where the winery today occupies 60 ha about 600 (!) Plots are cultivated biodynamically and produce coveted as well as beguiling, dark wines with an unprecedented elegance and freshness here! A revelation.

Tasting note
Character actor - very present, distinctive style, without revealing the subtleties, the dark, almost cool berry fruit carried by a deep, dark spice, also reveals warm sides in the dark, tart, fresh elegance. On the palate, dark cool immediacy in expression, this tart, reflected elegance is present, the beautiful body is completely forgotten, so captivating the gloomy, tart play offered with sovereign ease. That expressive, dark aura that doesn't seem to need strength or weight, just great!
Culinary recommendation
Flaschenpost team recommends this Llanos del Almendro DO to accompany polenta, lasagna and pizza.
Vinification
Very selective harvesting by hand, very low yield. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks, malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels and maturation for 18 months in small French oak barrels. Unfiltered, minimally sulfurized.
