Riesling Fass 13 Feils Grosses Gewächs 2021 - Weingut Peter Lauer

About the wine

If you want to surprise a wine connoisseur, then with this snappy white wine 2016 — Riesling Fass 13 Saarfeilser Großes Gewächs! With experience and intuition, the winemaker from the German Weingut Peter Lauer masters this white wine in the sunny and picturesque landscape of the Rhine Valley. Culinary tip from Flaschenpöstler: This Riesling is ideal for serving with duck or Indian cuisine.

Tasting note
The nose of Fass 13 delights with profound aromas of ripe stone fruit, lemongrass, passion fruit, slightly ethereal notes, some mint, lavender and violet. On the palate, again, lots of fruit like lime, pink grapefruit, some herbal tea and eucalyptus, a strong acid structure, a complex and mineral structure and a wonderful interplay of refinement, freshness and fruit. A wonderfully intense Saar Riesling with lots of charm and class, which is great fun even at a young age but will probably only show its true potential in 5-15 years.
Culinary recommendation
It goes well with poultry, light dishes with veal, freshwater fish, exotic dishes, spicy starters, cheese specialties or simply for pure enjoyment.
Vinification
The grapes for this large vineyard of almost 55-year-old vines, which grow on fine slate soil on a south-south-east slope with 65% slope, located directly on the Saar. In the vineyard, particular emphasis is placed on integrated and environmentally friendly management as well as on late and very selective harvesting. After the obligatory whole grape pressing with partial mash, the must is traditionally fermented spontaneously after preliminary clarification in large wooden barrels and aged on the yeast for 6 months, with occasional battonage. The wine has approx. 5.4 grams of residual sugar and 6.7 grams of acid per liter and a moderate alcohol content of 12.5% by volume.
