Barbaresco Riserva Rose delle Casasse' 2016 - Azienda Vinicola Cascina Baricchi

About the wine

With experience and intuition, the winemaker from the Italian winery Azienda Vinicola Cascina Baricchi masteres this red wine in the picturesque and blooming countryside of Piedmont. If Valentine's Day was a wine, it would definitely be the snappy Nebbiolo 2014 — Barbaresco Riserva Rose delle Casasse'. Flaschenpöstler tip: Combine this Nebbiolo with beef or pizza.

Vinification
We tasted the 2015 vintage and were so impressed by the infinite elegance and persistence of taste of this Barbaresco — it's a real shame that we only just received 240 bottles, because this wine is a true rarity! The Nebbiolo, which is grown in the Langhe region for the production of Barolo and Barbaresco, is divided into three different clone variants: Lampia, Michet and Rosé. The latter is the oldest variety and the least common in the whole of Piedmont, as, compared to Lampia and Michet, it requires particularly suitable soil conditions and a carefully selected position in the sun to reach perfect ripeness. Rosé is therefore a real oenological rarity. The new vineyards, created with the 2008 vintage, were planted according to the old tradition of mass selection, i.e. using the new rootstock varieties from the historic 1913 vineyard, which guarantees the same centuries-old DNA throughout the production. At the same time, every single bottle of Barbaresco Riserva Cascina Baricchi Rose delle Casasse is given an exclusivity. As far as the production of the historic vineyard is concerned, it was always vinified separately until the 2013 vintage. The production included only around 2,000 bottles of Barbaresco Riserva Rose delle Casasse per year. Since 2014, after evaluating the ripeness of the plants in the new vineyards, Natale Simonetta has decided to vinify all Nebbiolo rosé production pure in order to obtain a wine that represents Barbaresco Riserva in the most traditional way. The Le Casasse vineyard is located in the municipality of Neive and has a composition of 55% clay - 15% limestone - 10% chalk and 20% sand. The wine is prepared in stainless steel tanks. The maceration takes around 10 days, followed by 48-month aging in unroasted oak barrels and a further 24 months in bottle.
