About the wine
The boutique winery Te Whare Ra (TWR), the “House in the Sun,” was founded in 1979 and therefore owns the oldest Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer vines in Marlborough. Complex Sauvignon Blanc with finesse, purity and interesting layers. Three different vineyards, lots of manual work in the vineyard and careful winemaking make for an impressive variety of aromas.
Now until 2026James Suckling: 93/100
Tasting note
On the nose, intense aromas of lemon, elderflower, white currant, green pear and passion fruit. On the palate, the wine has a nice texture from storage on yeast. Aromas of wet stone, pineapple, lemon and nectarine. With its ripe, juicy acidity, the Sauvignon Blanc remains wonderfully balanced and results in a long, mineral finish.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with fish, seafood, sheep cheese, apero with guacamole
Vinification
The grapes were only gently pressed and bottled in 90% stainless steel tanks for cold fermentation. 10% were placed in older French wooden barrels (demi-muids with a volume of 150 l). Both batches were stored on fine yeast.
