Now until 2026
Tasting note
The good degree of maturity achieved in 2021 is reflected in the deep ruby red color of this wine. Notes of dark plums, cherries, strawberries and some spice on the nose and palate, completed by a light mineral note from the Waimea Plains soil. The wine has a medium body. The balanced acidity and the velvety, fine tannins make for a sumptuous mouthfeel. The aftertaste is softly warming and a bit rustic.
Culinary recommendation
Goes well with light mushroom dishes
Vinification
Focused on a fruity, lighter Pinot Noir style. Even when selecting the vines, winemaker Trudy Sheild pays attention to the fruitier grape material. Handpicked from two layers on the Waimea Plains. Gentle desiccation enabled an additional component of carbonic acid maceration. Gentle dipping of the pomace and well-controlled fermentation were decisive for the appealing tannins. The young wine was then aged for 10 months in small French oak barrels. The natural malolactic fermentation took place in spring and the wine was bottled in December 2022 with minimal filtration and no fining.
